This is a a verse by verse historical commentary with modern day applications. The author’s comments fall into two categories: historical and practical.
1) First, he brings Galatians to life by considering the historical interpretation of each passage. What, exactly, was going on? Why did Paul write this or that to them?
2) Then, once the historical interpretation has been established, he seeks to apply the teaching of that passage to Christians in the 21st Century.
In doing this he he is following an important, established principle. It is so important that we first understand what the writings of the Bible meant to those people to whom they were originally written. We need to do this before we seek to apply them to ourselves. If we do not do this, then we are in danger of misunderstanding and misapplying the Word of God.
