It has been said that the purpose of the letters to Timothy and Titus was to ensure that Christian would function as the true body of believers in a fallen world. The letters do not consist of a miscellaneous list of instructions, but instead there is an orderly progression of detail, with the interweaving of foundational truths concerning the Lord Jesus Christ, the whole bearing the impress of the Holy Spirit in word and phrase.
Throughout Timothy and Titus, there is a deep significance in the fact that while writing upon the main subjects of the Epistle, the Person of the Lord is revealed and the subject throughout is the witness of the people of God in the world, individually and collectively, as a local church.
