By Counsel – Stating some things of prime importance in the work that I have learned by experience for our experience is not to be kept to ourselves but passed on to others. It has generally cost us a good deal and is therefore all the more valuable. I have not overdone the advice for a little goes a long way with the learner.
By Example – One who advises must give illustrations of what he advocates, and in this I have had the privilege of putting to the test in practice what I have submitted by way of example. How many plans and efforts have proved abortive I cannot say, but those presented in this volume have proved more or less efficient and what happy memories some of them recall!
By Suggestion – The Outline addresses are suggestions only. What is needed it complete addresses but an attempt to save the worker trouble, but to so suggest things that he has to take off his coat and get to work. That which kindles thought and stirs desire, that sets the heart of fire with love and zeal is what is wanted
