Francis Ridley Havergal has had a profound influence over the hearts of believers for over 100 years. Born in England in 1836 her father was an Anglican minister and a composer of music, as well as a hymnwriter. After studying in England and Germany she became a brilliant singer and pianist and a career in society opened for her, but she considered her talents on to be on loan from the Lord and should be used in His service.
As a result of realising that she could not have the full blessedness as a Christian until she completely surrendered her life to him, in 1874 she wrote the hymn "Take my life and let it be / Consecrated, Lord to Thee." This book tells the story of this truly gifted and consecrated woman.
